Gun Crimes

Although Oklahoma allows licensed gun owners to carry firearms both openly and concealed, our state takes a hard stance against certain crimes involving firearms. Some gun crimes are considered misdemeanors and will result in monetary fines; others, however, are felonies that can result in life imprisonment.

Felony Gun Crimes

The most serious felony gun crimes in Oklahoma are:

  • Shooting with intent to kill
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Armed robbery

Conviction of these crimes can result in a maximum sentence of life in prison. Other felony gun crimes include:

  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Brandishing a firearm
  • Possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony

These crimes may be punished by up to 10 years in prison.

Other Gun Crimes

Oklahoma law details several other firearm offenses, such as:

  • Unlawful carry
  • Carrying while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Furnishing firearms to minors, incompetent persons or prohibited persons
  • Manufacture or possession of unlawful ammunition
